Assessment of Cultural Heritage Damage in Odesa
A UNESCO delegation led by Ms. Kiara Dezzetti Bardeski has arrived in Odesa.
The team members are assessing cultural sites that were damaged during the hostile attack on November 14.
According to Ivan Liptuga, the Director of the Culture Department of the Odesa City Council, 22 architectural monuments were damaged during the attack, 19 of which are located within the UNESCO cultural heritage site.
«Next week, a special commission will be formed to prepare damage reports so that UNESCO can provide urgent assistance», — said Ivan Liptuga.
«UNESCO strongly condemns the violation of international law concerning attacks on cultural heritage. We are cooperating with local authorities and specialists to understand our next steps», Ms. Kiara Dezzetti Bardeski added.
