Competition for Lesya Ukrainka Monument in Odesa
In August 2025, a competition was announced in Odesa for the best project proposal for a monument to Lesya Ukrainka and the improvement of the surrounding area.
The Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Odesa City Council initiated this competition.
The main goal is to identify the best concept for the monument to the renowned Ukrainian writer and to plan the landscaping of the park.
The competition ran until January 30, 2026, inviting professional architects, sculptors, designers, and students from relevant fields to participate.
The Department of Architecture has already summarized the results, receiving 12 project proposals.
The winner was the entry with the motto No. 201953 (authors: sculptor Mykola Bylyk, architects Andriy Korstruba, Maria Matushenko, Oleksandr Vovk).
The second place went to the project with motto No. 704020 (authors: sculptors Viktor Lipovka, Oleksandra Ruban, architects Andriy Danilenko, Kateryna Lipovka).
The third place was awarded to the work with motto No. 250271 (authors: sculptor Anastasiya Kozminska, architects Mykola Chepelev, Mykola Volkov).
Prize money will be awarded to the winning teams according to the competition's terms.
According to the city council's decision, the monument will be installed in the park at the corner of Fontanska Road and Lesya Ukrainka Avenue (formerly Gagarin Avenue).
