Celebrating Ukrainian Cinema in Latvia

18 October 2025

From October 10 to 12, 2025, Riga hosted the fifth anniversary festival «Days of Ukrainian Cinema in Latvia», solidifying its role in cultural diplomacy between Ukraine and Latvia.

The festival was supported by the State Film Agency of Ukraine and organized by the Charitable Foundation ChF "Doors", the NGO «International Association for the Development and Support of Ukrainian Culture», and the Latvian organization «DijaTi».

This year, the festival featured a special event — the first round table titled «Prospects for the Development of Ukrainian Cinema and Co-production with European Filmmakers», gathering representatives from the cultural and educational sectors of both countries.

The festival continued with screenings of Ukrainian films, presented by Ukrainian filmmakers themselves.

The chairperson of the Odesa Film Studio, Anna Docheva, presented the film «Why I Am Alive» by director Vilėnas Novak, produced at the Odesa Film Studio, which has become iconic in the recent history of Ukrainian cinema.

During the festival, Valters Kagainis was awarded the «Legends of Odesa Film Studio» award for his significant contributions to the development of Ukrainian cinema and collaboration with the Odesa Film Studio.

Screenings took place at the Ksuns/Kinogalerija cinema and the Ukrainian House in Latvia (Ukrainas māja Latvijā).
